Hail hail the gang’s all here!
…or at least after the hail storm in Longmont in 2018.
I never understood that having a gang, or crew, like Greenpoint Roofing could make this act of nature easier to handle.
It started several years before the hailstorm. Our roof was aging and we called in a few roofers for estimates. We liked the professional presentation from Greenpoint, but didn’t quite need to reroof at that time. Once the hail came a few years later, out of town crews were all over the neighborhood, and we learned from one of those solicitors that our roof was, in fact, damaged.
Then we found our several year old estimate from Greenpoint and compared it to a new one form another roofer. After reading the fine print from that company’s contract, and checking the BBB ratings, it became clear that Greenpoint was truly a better company.
No Malarkey or “yes” Malarkey?
We met with Greenpoint’s representative, Tony Lopez (who had been part of the original visit of several years earlier), who suggested that we might consider an upgraded product to that quoted a few years earlier. Since I was already over 70 years old, his suggestion to a slightly more premium Malarkey roof seemed excessive. However, his follow-up explanation and actual demonstration of its superior hail resistant qualities, made us consider that upgrade.
…a drone by any other name.
Actually the insurance adjuster helped us decide to go with the Malarkey upgrade. Tony was present for the adjuster’s visit. I was impressed with the adjuster’s use of a drone to simplify his documenting our claim.
But Tony’s chatting with the adjuster resulted in my learning that the field experience from other claims over the past several years demonstrated that often Malarkey roofs resisted hail damage better than standard roofing. In my case, it was this better hail resistance (and possible saving another insurance deductible during our remaining years of residence), rather than a longer warranty/life, that made us upgrade.
Perfect? “No”. But wonderful? “Yes”.
Could they have informed us a little sooner before the crews showed up? Sure. But given the overall demand for reroofs following the hail storm, we were delighted that they showed up earlier, finished more quickly, cleaned up thoroughly, passed on the appropriate insurance upgrades, met local code provision and kept all promises.
Overall, a wonderful experience.
